An Efficient Motion Strategy to Compute Expected-Time Locally Optimal Continuous Search Paths in Known Environments

چکیده
In this paper we address the problem of finding time-optimal search paths in known environments. In particular, we address the problem of searching a known environment for an object whose unknown location is characterized by a known probability density function (PDF). With this formulation, the time required to find the object is a random variable induced by the choice of search path together with the PDF for the object’s location. The optimization problem we consider is that of finding the path that minimizes the expected value of the time required to find the object. As the complexity of the problem precludes finding an exact optimal solution, we propose a two-level, heuristic approach to finding the optimal search path. At the top level, we use a decomposition of the workspace based on critical curves to impose a qualitative structure on the solution trajectory. At the lower level, individual segments of this trajectory are refined using local numerical optimization methods. We have implemented the algorithm and present simulation results for the particular case when the object’s location is specified by the uniform PDF. © Koninklijke Brill NV, Leiden and The Robotics Society of Japan, 2009

The problem we investigate deals with the optimal assignment of resources to the activities of a stochastic project network. We seek to minimize the expected cost of the project include sum of resource utilization costs and lateness costs. We assume that the work content required by the activities follows an exponential distribution. The decision variables of the model are the allocated resourc...

This study aims at getting a better performance for optimal stock portfolios by modeling stocks prices dynamics through a continuous paths Levy process. To this end, the share prices are simulated using a multi-dimensional geometric Brownian motion model. Then, we use the results to form the optimal portfolio by maximizing the Sharpe ratio and comparing the findings with the outputs of the conv...
متن کاملSearch-Based Footstep Planning
Efficient footstep planning for humanoid navigation through cluttered environments is still a challenging problem. Often, obstacles create local minima in the search space, forcing heuristic planners such as A* to expand large areas. Furthermore, planning longer footstep paths often takes a long time to compute. In this work, we introduce and discuss several solutions to these problems. For nav...
متن کاملPlanning sub-optimal and continuous-curvature paths for car-like robots
This paper deals with path planning for car-like robot. Usual planners compute paths made of circular arcs tangentially connected by line segments, as these paths are locally optimal. The drawback of these paths is that their curvature proole is not continuous: to follow them precisely, a vehicle must stop and reorient its directing wheels at each curvature discontinuity (transition segment{ ci...
متن کاملInterleaving Optimization with Sampling-Based Motion Planning (IOS-MP): Combining Local Optimization with Global Exploration
Computing globally optimal motion plans for a robot is challenging in part because it requires analyzing a robot’s configuration space simultaneously from both a macroscopic viewpoint (i.e., considering paths in multiple homotopic classes) and a microscopic viewpoint (i.e., locally optimizing path quality). We introduce Interleaved Optimization with Sampling-based Motion Planning (IOS-MP), a ne...
